Veins have the function of transporting blood from all over the body to the heart. In this journey, while transportation the blood has to move beyond the gravity especially from the lower parts of the body like legs. In such places, often due to a venal problem or weak valves instead of moving ahead blood starts to pool in a specific region giving rise to unsettling bulges. These are known as varicose veins. Often these can be painful. Treatment is indeed a necessary part however a proper and balanced diet helps in preventive care as well.

Here are some foods that are better avoided when you have varicose veins.

  • Foods that have a high sodium content

Consumption of surplus sodium can cause to more water retention in the body. This is because the body holds more water so it can reduce the sodium level in the cells, which finally raises the volume of blood that flows within the veins. The result of this is weakening the walls of the vein due to stress which is added to the veins and valves. All these add to the development of varicose veins.

  • Flour and Grains that are Refined

Fiber is really important in the formation of the vein wall and essential to the proper flow of blood in the body. This is simply because fiber blocks blood clotting. Usually, non-refined grains are supposed to be good for varicose. Still, refined grains have most of their fiber content removed. Foods like white rice, refined pasta, and other food made with white should be excluded.

  • Sugar

Processed grains act specifically like sugar in the bloodstream. There is no astonishment, thus, why processed sugar is noted as one of the foods to bypass. Large intake of processed sugar does not only drive to obesity which is also one reason for varicose veins but can as well occur in other health complexities. Refined sugar also has low fiber content which can lead to constipation.

  • Alcohol

Excess consumption of alcohol can influence the release of large levels of insulin just as high- sugar foods and diets high in carbohydrate. Excess alcohol intake can give rise to venous disorder.  The body is unable to get rid of sodium when the insulin level in the body is high. Alcohol can also impair the way the body circulates blood as it strikes the ability of the liver to accurately remove toxins and trash in the blood. This makes the blood more viscous, weakening the veins of the legs even more.

  • Green Vegetables

Vitamin K is associated with the blood clot. However, when there is the excess of vitamin K in the body, it causes the blood to become dense and makes blood flow to the leg and other parts of the body complex. Kale, collard greens, spinach, and cauliflowers are some of these green vegetables you should avoid.

  • Soy Sauce

It is very important to keep low sodium levels and high potassium levels. Hence, you must limit Soy Sauce intake or completely eliminate it from your diet as it increases your sodium level in the body and decreases the potassium level.

  • Salted Foods and Whole Milk

Foods containing too much salt can make varicose veins acute. Whole milk foods help in gaining weight rapidly and thus increase the risk of varicose veins hence it is better to avoid.
